Mountain Lions in PCR

It recently came to the Board’s attention that law enforcement was contacted after Kyler Wheeler’s dogs were seen on a cabin owner’s camera chasing a mountain lion through the PCR area last week. We would like to firmly clarify the Board’s position regarding this situation.
The Board, along with many residents, supports efforts to remove potentially dangerous mountain lions from the immediate PCR area. Unlike bears, which typically retreat when encountered, mountain lions are predators that may stalk their prey, which could include pets or even children. Our primary concern in supporting this effort is the safety of our residents and their guests.
For this reason, we ask members to be patient and not be alarmed if Kyler’s dogs briefly appear on your property cameras. Their presence typically indicates they are tracking a mountain lion that has already moved through your area, and they will pass through quickly.
Kyler has committed that he will not intentionally trespass on individual lots. However, if a lion is treed on a property, he may retrieve his dogs from the roadway or nearby area as needed to ensure the situation is resolved safely. The dogs are highly trained and friendly to humans.
The Board believes this service provides an important benefit to the safety of our community, and we hope to avoid actions that could jeopardize its availability in the future.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact a member of the Board.
As an additional note, Kyler notified the Board as soon as he believed his dogs might pursue a lion close to or through PCR. This information was then shared with members through the PCR Facebook page so residents could be aware of the situation.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
